Rs 33 lakh cash in 2,000 rupee notes seized; 5 held
The amount was recovered from two seperate raids.
Mumbai: Five persons were detained after Rs 33 lakhs in Rs 2,000 notes were seized in two separate cases in Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar in Thane, police said on Tuesday.
In Navi Mumbai, two persons were held after seizure of the new notes worth Rs 23.70 lakh, while three persons were held in Ulhasnagar after Rs 9.76 lakh in Rs 2,000 denomination was recovered Monday evening, they said.
In the case of the Navi Mumbai seizure, the Koparkhairane police said those taken into custody have not been able to answer queries regarding possession of the notes.
