Armed gang robs at Hyderabad's fuel depot, snatches Rs 15 lakh

'They opened the locker, took away Rs 20 lakh and again attacked us with iron rods and knives.'

Hyderabad: Six men armed with knives and pistols attacked the employees of Bharat Petrol Pump in Medchal and looted around Rs 15 lakh in the early hours of Sunday. The Hindi-speaking gang injured the staffers seriously and damaged the CCTV cameras and DVR set-up in the pump. Six staffers who suffered injuries are undergoing treatment.

The petrol pump is located in Medchal on NH 44. On Sunday night, five workers and one guard were on night duty. Around 2.50 am, six masked men armed with knives and pistols barged into the pump. While one waited outside with a pistol others entered the office and attacked the staff who were sitting inside due to the cold weather.

“They spoke in Hindi. They did not understand what we said and we did not understand what they said. They started beating us with iron rods and attacked us with knives. We gave the cash we had in our pockets. But they continued to assault us asking for the locker keys,” a worker named Ravi said.

When they refused to give the locker keys they aimed the pistol at supervisor Sanjeeva Reddy and asked him for the keys.

“They opened the locker, took away Rs 20 lakh and again attacked us with iron rods and knives,” another worker said. Before leaving the gang damaged the furniture, swiping machines and broke the Digital Video Recorder (DVR).

Shift supervisor Sanjeeva Reddy, Ravi, Sravan, Sai, Linga Reddy and guard Raju were injured seriously.

"We suspect the robbers belong to an interstate robbery gang,” Petbasheerabad ACP S. Ashok Kumar said. In 2008 a similar incident happened at the same petrol pump.
