Bengaluru: A 23-year-old man was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 30-year-man in Koramangala 1st Block early last week. The victim, who is from Odisha, was in a drunken stupor at the time of the incident that happened on December 5, the police said.

The Koramangala police have registered a case and have also arrested the accused, Sanjay Bhaumik, who is also from Odisha and a resident of Koramangala 1st Block. The accused is a cook and worked at a house in Whitefield, the police said.

The victim, who is a regional manager of a Bengaluru-based room rental agency, had gone for a party at a pub near Koramangala and had returned in a cab to the 1st block. “The victim was so drunk that he started vomiting on the road after getting down from the cab. The accused in the pretext of helping the victim took him to a dimly lit isolated spot in a residential area between ST Bed and Kormangala 1st block and allegedly performed unnatural sexual act on the victim,” the police said.

The victim initially did not realise what was happening as he passed out while being helped by the accused. But later when he regained consciousness a few hours later, he discovered that he was disrobed and was sexually assaulted, he told the police.

The Koramangala police registered a case and it was easy for them as the victim gave them a clue that the assailant had walked in a particular direction towards a house in the area.

The victim stated that the accused was also from Odisha and spoke Oriya.

The police traced Sanjay Bhaumik to his cousin’s house nearby where he had come after his work from Whitefield.

Sanjay was produced before a magistrate and was remanded to judicial custody, they said.
