Hyderabad: Man beats father to death with rod

Differences in sharing the pension amount led to murder.

Hyderabad: A man beat his father, a state government pensioner, with an iron rod at a house in Old Jillelaguda past noon on Monday, resulting in his death. The man sisters watched the attack, which was over the pension of the victim, M. Krishna, 58, but did nothing to stop him.

Meerpet police said Krishna had five daughters, two of them married, and a son. His wife passed away about 12 years ago due to ill health. He retired as an attender attender in the water works department in June. After his retirement, Krishna took a flat on rent at Nandanavanam and lived by himself due to differences with his children.

On his retirement, Krishna received about Rs 12 lakh as pension. His children Anjali, Priyanka and Tarun had been pressurising him to share the money with them, which Krishna did not agree to.

On Saturday morning, he visited the children at the Old Jillelaguda house when Anjali, Priyanka and Tarun were present. Post lunch, arguments erupted between Krishna and his children over the pension money. At about 6 pm, enraged at his father’s refusal to share the money, Tarun picked up an iron rod and hit Krishna on the legs, causing severe bleeding. The family took him to the hospital only at midnight, where he was declared brought dead.

Meerpet inspector N. Yadaiah said, “When Tarun was beating his father, Anjali and Priyanka were present in the house, but they did not bother to stop him. Krishna received injuries on both legs and suffered blood loss. The incident happened at 6 pm but they took him to a hospital at midnight. He had died by then.”

He said that Tarun had undergone an amputation two years ago, as one of his legs was affected with cancer. He used to stay at home, while Anjali used to work in a stationery store and Priyanka was pursuing a diploma course. Based on a complaint from Krishna’s younger brother Sudarshan, a case of murder was registered against Tarun and Anjali and Priyanka have been booked.

The trio have been taken into custody, said Inspector Yadaiah.

“The family was disturbed for a long time. The children never liked their father and that was the reason he lived separately. He used to visit them thrice a month,” said the inspector.
