Hyderabad: 2 burglars held, Rs 23 lakh recovered
Hyderabad: An autorickshaw driver who has committed 14 burglaries in the last five months was arrested by the Rachakonda Central Crime Station sleuths. The accused disposed of about 73 tola gold through his friend, an old offender, who has also been arrested and property worth Rs 22.63 lakh was recovered from them.
Sampangi Mahesh, 26, a resident of Jawaharnagar was an autorickshaw driver until he started burgling houses for easy money. He was arrested by the police in 2017, for burgling nine houses. A PD Act was invoked against him and he was detained at Cherlapally Central Prison for a year. While in prison, he met Solleti Shakara Chary, 24, a goldsmith, who was arrested for purchasing stolen gold in 12 cases and was also detained under PD Act.
They became friends and decided to continue committing offences. After being released from jail, Mahesh snatched gold chains at 14 places Kushaiguda, Keesara and Jawaharnagar, Alwal and sold the chains to Chary. CCS Malkajgiri who have been searching for Mahesh received a tip off that he was at Radhika cross roads and apprehended him. Subsequently, on his confession, Chary was also arrested, and 73 tolas gold worth Rs 22.63 lakh was recovered from them and they are in judicial custody.
