Kochi: Fort Kochi police on Monday arrested four persons on charge of assaulting a young couple at Fort Kochi beach on Sunday evening.
The arrested were identified as M.A. Jaber, 34, B. Naufal, 32, Mohammed Ali, 36, and Abdul Riyas, 28, all hailing from Mattancherry.
According to cops, the couple was sitting on the beach when the two accused who were sitting nearby started heckling them. When the couple reacted, the duo called up their friends to the spot and started beating the man. “The woman also got beaten up and the man had to get treatment at a hospital,” an official said.
The police booked them under IPC sections including 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assaulting woman with an intent to outrage her modesty). A court later remanded them.
