Chennai: Businessman held for wife's murder

Man slits her throat after she refuses to give jewels.

Chennai: Police has arrested a businessman in connection with the murder of his wife found dead in their residence in Avadi a week ago.

The home alone woman was suspected to be murdered by an intruder as her gold chain was missing.

However, investigations have revealed that arrested Nisha Rajan (34), a realtor, murdered his wife after she refused to part with her jewels for him to pledge. He had enacted a drama after murdering her on October 3.

The deceased, Mohana Priya (30), lived with her husband Nisha Rajan and two children at Kollumedu in Avadi.

On October 3, around 1 pm, a neighbour had co-me to visit the woman when she found the front door ajar. Suspicious, she ventured inside to find Mohana Priya lying dead with slit injuries on her neck. A police team from Avadi Tank factory ru-shed to the scene on information and moved the body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital for autopsy.

Nisha Rajan was away at work, while their children were at school. Police had initially suspected a known person to the woman to have committed the murder. Meanwhile investigations revealed that the woman had attempted suicide twice over her husband’s drinking habits over his loss in business.

On October 3, she threatened to commit suicide when he slit her throat and murdered her.

Avadi Tank Factory police registered a case of murder and arrested him. He was produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
