Hyderabad: Man gets 5 years imprisonment under POCSO Act
Hyderabad: A man who sexually harassed his minor sister in January 2018 was sentenced to rigorous punishment of five years by the court trying cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
Mohd Khalid, 25, was an alcoholic and a habitual offender and was booked under child sexual harassment at Shahinayathguni police station. According to the complainant, “The accused would harass the entire family physically. On January 8, 2018, while minor sister was asleep, the accused touched her private parts. The girl woke up in a shock and resisted the accused. He (Khalid ) attacked the family with a blade and knives”.
A case was booked under section 307 IPC, 25 (i) arms act.
“From the evidence on record, it is well established that Khalid has committed the offence under section 354, 354 A (i) of IPC and section 8 of Pocso Act,” the police said in the chargesheet.
The trial was held for 9 months and on September 12, the judgment was pronounced after the final hearing.
The 1st additional metropolitan session judge Ms Suneetha Kunchala, pronounced, “Considering the fact that the victim girl is a minor and the offence committed by the accused is heinous in nature, he is sentenced with maximum punishment.
“He is sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of five years and to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 and in default of fine amount, he has to further undergo simple imprisonment for a period of 3 months for the offence punishable under section 8 of the protection of children from sexual offence. act, 2012”.
