Bengaluru: Two-wheeler rider held for assaulting traffic cop

Ranganath started abusing Shasi for not clearing the traffic and later physically assaulted him.

Bengaluru: The Basaveshwara Nagar police arrested a man for assaulting a traffic constable attached to the Vijayanagar traffic police while he was on duty near Modi Bridge on Tuesday evening.

Ranganath, 26, a resident of Gayathrinagar, was arrested immediately after he assaulted the traffic police constable, K.B. Shashi Kumar.

Shashi was managing traffic near West of Chord Road and around 7.30 pm, a small accident took place between a BMTC bus and an autorickshaw at Modi Bridge which caused a small traffic jam. Shashi rushed to the spot to clear the road when Ranganath, who was drunk and riding a two-wheeler, stopped his bike and picked up a fight with Shashi.

Ranganath started abusing Shasi for not clearing the traffic and later physically assaulted him. Shashi immediately sent a message to the Hoysala team, who rushed to the spot and took Ranganath into custody. They later handed him over to the jurisdictional law and order police for assaulting an on-duty cop.

The Basaveshwara Nagar police registered a case and produced him before the court.
