Hyderabad: Man dies in 15-feet pit near lake

Police said J. Bhaskar, 37, a welder, had gone to immerse the idol while his friend Anjaneyulu waited on the main road.

Hyderabad: A man who was immersing a Ganesh idol drowed in a 15-foot-deep pit near Nallache-ruvu on Sunday. Police said J. Bhaskar, 37, a welder, had gone to immerse the idol while his friend Anjaneyulu waited on the main road. When he did not return, Anjaneyulu went to check near the lake and found people gathered near a pit filled with water and informed the police.

The body was fished out on Monday morning by expert divers. Police said there are around 20 pits on the banks of the lake. Two months ago, a student had drowned in a pit.

A two-year-old child died after boiling dal fell on him in Malkajgiri. V. Shiva who was playing at his home, accidentally pulled the bowl and suffered burns when the hot dal fell on him, police said. His parents, V. Raghu and Sridevi of Kurnool, had shifted to Hyderabad a year ago. Raghu is a construction worker.

On Friday evening, Sridevi cooked dal and kept it on the floor and went out for a while while Raghu went to a nearby shop when the accident occurred. Shiva was rushed to Gandhi Hospital where he succumbed to burns on Sunday evening.
