Burglars steal Rs 26K booze in Keesara

HYDERABAD: Unidentified burglars made away with ₹26.000 worth of liquor from a wine shop in Keesara early on Saturday after entering the premises by breaking the shutter lock. Keesara inspector K. Venkataiah said police were analysing CCTV footage of the area. Police suspect the role of the employees or some persons known to them.

4 held for stealing phones

Mahankali police arrested gang leader Bariya Rajesh Nagaraj Yadav, 22, and his associates Gonay Pravee, 21, Bellamkonda Saikrishna and a minor for the theft of nine smartphones and other property worth ₹2 lakhs. They operated in the Mahankali, Gopalapuram, Jawaharnagar and Rachakonda police limits, and were arrested by a special team, said north zone DCP Chandana Deepti.

Thief nabbed in quick action

The swift action of the Afzalgunj police led to the arrest of a man, G. Venkatesh, for allegedly stealing a bag containing ₹2.25 lakh from a businessman, Singirikonda Vamsikrishna, owner of Mamata Silk Centre, Suryapet, at 5 am on Saturday. Police said Vamsikrishna hung his bag containing the money on the wall of a public toilet in MGBS and went to relieve himself. When he returned, he found his bag missing. Vamsikrisnna filed a complaint with the Afzalgunj police where detective sub-inspector P. Ramkishan recorded his statement. Police collected CCTV footage and identified a man taking the bag and boarding a bus to Attapur. The police rushed to Attapur, intercepted the bus, searched the man, identified as G. Venkatesh, and found the cash, Afzalgunj inspector S. Santosham said. Venkatesh had given ₹25,000 to his cousin, which will be recovered, he said.

Woman ends life over harassment

A 27-year-old woman who was allegedly mentally and physically harassed by her in-laws for giving birth to a female child died by suicide at her house in NM Colony in the early hours of Saturday, Attapur police said. Her father Gadikar Ram Reddy told the police that the victim, Arughi, had married a techie, Mohan Reddy, on March 19, 2020. Her in-laws expelled her from their house after she birth to a girl, and was staying with her parents. Arughi returned to her in-laws house where her mother-in-law Kalavati, sister in-law Savita and father-in-law started harassing her in the absence of her husband, police said.

Student dies by suicide

A 20-year-old student, Sai Manikanta, died by suicide life at Borabanda on Friday night, reportedly after his girlfriend refused to marry him. His mother Sai Bhagyalakshmi found his body in the bedroom and called the police. Manikantha was in love with a girl from his college for three months, Borabanda inspector Kamalla Ravikumar.

8 kg gold seized at the airport

Customs officers at the RGIA intercepted four passengers and seized eight kilograms of gold, valued at ₹4.86 crore. Two of the passengers were coming from Bangkok — one had hidden 2 kilograms of gold in bars, and another had ₹1.78 kg of gold bars hidden in clothing. A passenger from Sharjah was found with 2.17 kg gold and a flier from Dubai was found with 2.05 kg gold.
