CBI begins probe into Rs 1.72 crore fraud in postal department

HYDERABAD: Postal department officials, who conducted an internal investigation into irregularities in the Kodakandla post office a day after the anti-corruption unit of the CBI registered cases, have found that Kesari Satish, the then subpostmaster, had diverted Rs 1.72 crore of government funds.

The team of postal officials was led by Prasun Kumar, assistant superintendent of post offices, Warangal south sub-division. “Senior officers learnt of irregularities in Kodakandla post office. On investigation they came across several fraudulent payment entries,” officials said.

Although withdrawal amounts should be done from POS cash, Satish used POS cash for payment of GL code for deduction amount towards refund of cancellation of railway tickets, including on Sundays and public holidays.

He posted the same transaction after four or five days even though there were no such payments.
