WARANGAL: The body of a 90-year-old retired teacher was found stuffed inside the fridge in his house in Nagara Veedi area in Parkal in Hanamkonda district on Thursday.
Police said the deceased, Byram Balaiah, lives with his mentally unstable grandson Nikhil and they survive on his pension. Balaiah’s health deteriorated over the past few days and he died three days ago.
Nikhil stuffed his body in the fridge, police said. Neighbours grew suspicious as the old man was missing and there was foul smell coming from the house.
They immediately informed the police. Parkal ACP Shivaramaiah and circle inspector Mahender Reddy inspected the house and found the body in the fridge.
"On questioning Nikhil, he said he had no money to conduct the final rites of his grandfather. They have separated from their relatives long back. He said he is gathering money for the funeral and he put his grandfather in the fridge in the meanwhile. We registered a case of suspicious death and took Nikhil into custody. The postmortem report is awaited for further progress in the case," Mahender said.
