Coimbatore man arrested for killing son

Minna Rao in anger went inside the kitchen brought a knife and stabbed Magesh.

Coimbatore: A 46-year-old construction worker was held for allegedly stabbing his son in a drunken brawl in Coimbatore.

According to police, Minna Rao, 46, construction laborer who migrated from Andhra 15 years ago, has been residing with his wife Gowri, 40, daughter Revathi, 21, and 17-year-old son Magesh at Kavundampalayam in suburbs of Kovai.

The father-son duo, who are in the habit of enjoying a drink together during weekends, on Sunday had consumed more alcohol than they would normally do, police claimed. Magesh who usually works with his father at the construction site had allegedly picked up a quarrel and pushed him down, injuring Minna Rao.

Minna Rao in anger went inside the kitchen brought a knife and stabbed Magesh. On hearing the screams of Magesh, neighbors came running and seeing them Minna Rao ran out and escaped from the house. Magesh was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where doctors declared him brought dead.

On information Thudiyaloor police rushed to the spot and lodged a complaint; the body was sent for post-mortem. Police launched a search and arrested Minna Rao on Monday morning. He was later produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody on Coimbatore central prison.
