Two killed in separate accidents in Bengaluru

Police said the incident happened around 8.30 pm on Thursday, when Likhith was playing near his house.

BENGALURU: Two people, including a five-and-half-year-old boy, were killed in separate road accidents in Byatarayanapura and Yelahanka traffic police station limits since Thursday night.

In the first incident a boy, identified as Likhith, was run over by a Maruti Omni van while he was playing with friends at Pantharapalya on Mysuru Road. Likhith was son of Prakash, a driver by profession, and a resident of Janatha Colony in Pantharapalya.

Police said the incident happened around 8.30 pm on Thursday, when Likhith was playing near his house. The van driver failed to notice the children and ran over Likhith while reversing the vehicle and his friends had a narrow escape.

The neighbours immediately rushed Likhith to hospital, where he soon succumbed. The Byatarayanapura traffic police are on the lookout for the van driver, who abandoned the vehicle and fled after the accident.

Pedestrian knocked down
A 70-year-old pedestrian was knocked down by a speeding taxi while he was crossing the road at Palanahalli Gate on Kempegowda International Airport Road on Friday afternoon.

The deceased, identified as Chennarayappa, was a resident of Palanahalli. Police said the incident happened around 12.30 pm and he died on the spot. The Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case and arrested the car driver, identified as Jaya Krishna, 26, and have seized the car.
