Hyderabad drug smuggling case: Majority from well-off families
Hyderabad: A majority of the youngsters who are drug peddlers come from well-to-do families. Their customers are also rich. Akshay’s father is a retired army engineer, while Saad Muhammed’s family is wealthy.
While a few of these youths have had troubled past, many grew up in quite normally. But one common pattern police officials found was an early start with Marijuana — often in their teens. That habit later developed into the use of hard drugs. Cops are also blaming bad parenting. “In the cases we cracked, a majority of the youngsters are from the upper middle-class. They were habituated to a lavish life and once they started using, they began needing more money to fund their habits. And peddling became an easy route to more money,” said Task Force inspector L. Raja Venkat Reddy. The young customers of LSD in Hyderabad are also rich.
Parents of 21-year-old Jagadeesh (name changed) are medical practitioners in Dubai. He lives in a 2BHK apartment in a posh area in Banjara Hills with a roommate and attends a premium engineering college. Besides monthly visits to Goa between October to February, he also threw lavish parties in his own apartment for his friends.
