Shivamogga: An engineering student studying at the PES Institute of Technology allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the overflowing Tunga river here on Friday morning around 9 am.
According to police sources, the student, identified as Mohammad Rizwan (24), son of Ahmed Khaleel, went on his motorcycle and allegedly plunged into the river near the new bridge on the Bypass Road. Before plunging into the river, Rizwan had gone to his brother’s medical store and left a death note, his father Khaleel said.
Rizwan was a student of the final year engineering course at PES Institute of Technology situated on Sagar Road. Fire service personnel and policemen are involved in an operation to trace the youth.
The police authorities are trying hard to trace the body in the overflowing river. According to the Doddapete police inspector, the undercurrent in the river is so strong that it is difficult to trace the body which might have shifted further.
