Raichur: The Raichur police who recently busted a fake currency note racket with the arrest of eight people, have found that the racket has inter-state links.
The police seized five fake currency notes of Rs 500 denomination and 224 fake notes of Rs 2,000 denomination from the seven arrested who are from Devadurga taluk. The arrested include two close followers of Devadurga MLA Shivangouda Naik. They are H.P. Prakash and Ayyalappa Naik, who owned a petrol bunk at Jalahalli in the same taluk.
The other arrested are: Srinivas Reddy, a farmer from Basapur camp in Sindhanur taluk, who now lives in Devadurga, Ravindra ( Devadurga), Ramkrishna (Hussain Nagar camp, Manvi taluk), Hanumantha (Kuchinerla, Gadwal district, Telangana).
Two other culprits - Abdul Rehman and Amjad from Bengaluru, have been arrested by the Koppal police. They are yet to be handed over to the Raichur police for investigation.
Police suspect that in the recent Assembly polls, a large number of fake notes were used to cover the expenses in Devadurga taluk. The police are yet to ascertain whether the arrested had direct links with the BJP MLA Shivangouda Naik.
Initially it was suspected that the Abdul Rehman and Amjad were the kingpins. “Now it has been established that the racket has links in Tamil Nadu. Further investigation may throw more light on those involved”, the sources added.
