20 year-old student, mother held for realtor's murder
Bengaluru: A mother-son duo’s run from law came to an end nearly two weeks after they killed their family friend, a realtor. Ironically they fell in the police net after the father of the main accused filed a missing complaint regarding the realtor with Soladevanahalli police.
The crime took place on June 29. Bashir Khan, a 35-year-old realtor, was murdered by his friend Illyas’ son and wife over a financial row.
Police have identified the accused as Roshan Shaikh, a 20-year-old student and his mother Jeenabi.
Police said Illyas and Bashir knew each other for the past 18 years and they recently got into a business partnership. They decided to invest in real estate, but they incurred losses and Illyas owed money to Bashir.
Bashir began exerting pressure on them to return the money. On June 29, he came to Illyas’ house at around 10 pm, while Illyas had gone out of town, and misbehaved with Jeenabi.
Roshan objected to Bashir’s behaviour and soon they got into a heated argument. Jeenabi pacified them and later Roshan and Bashir went to their respective rooms to sleep.
Police said Roshan, who was infuriated with Bashir, decided to attack him again. Around 2.30 am Roshan took the cricket bat and battered Bashir to death.
Further investigations revealed that the mother and son then put the body into a gunny bag and travelled in his car till K.R. Pete, where they abandoned his body in Cauvery river and returned.
Three days after the incident, Illyas returned from the trip and enquired about Bashir. Roshan allegedly told him that had gone out of town for some work.
When Bashir didn't return for few days, Iliyas approached the police and registered a missing complaint.
The Police began investigation and with the help of call records and mobile tower location of deceased, they learnt that at the time of the incident Roshan and his mother was also present at K.R. Pete.
The police they zeroed in on Roshan and Jeenabi. Fearing that she would get caught, Jeenabi consumed sleeping pills and was hospitalized.
Roshan was picked up and when he was questioned, he confessed to the crime.
In his confession, Roshan stated that Bashir’s misbehavior with his mother had crossed the limit and he decided to kill him. The police have recovered the decomposed body of Bashir.
