Karnataka: Janthakal mining case Gagan Baderiya's son granted bail
Bengaluru: The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Gagan Baderiya, son of IAS officer Gangaram Baderiya, in connection with Janthakal mining case. Gangaram was earlier arrested by SIT for allegedly receiving kickbacks to the tune of Rs 10 lakh from the Janthakal mining company to renew its licence in 2007, when he was director of the Mines and Geology Department. According to sources in the SIT, it is alleged that investigations have revealed that Baderiya had pressured his subordinates to renew the lease to the mining company. As a kickback, the company had paid him Rs 10 lakh and the money was allegedly deposited into the bank account of his son Gagan.
BBMP Commissioner told to be present:
The High Court has asked BBMP commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad and Assistant Revenue Officer (Arekere) - N Prakash to be present before the court on Thursday. The court was hearing a case relating to BBMP rejecting an application by a school seeking exemption from paying property tax. The court expressed displeasure against the Palike for its action.
