Hyderabad: 1 nabbed at airport for smuggling gold
Hyderabad: An air passenger from the city, who attempted to smuggle gold by concealing it in his rectum, was arrested by the Hyderabad Customs at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday.
According to customs officials, the passenger arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International airport from Dubai in an Air India flight (952) on Wednesday. On a tip, the passenger was intercepted and subjected to checking.
On thorough verification, the passenger was found to be carrying gold paste in three capsules inside his rectum.
The capsules were recovered and the gold was extracted by melting the paste. The officials said that the extracted gold was weighing about 538.09 gm valued at Rs 17,56,863.
The passenger has been detained for questioning and a case has been registered for the probe.
