Notorious thief held in Hyderabad, 45 tolas of gold, silver seized

Hyderabad: A notorious Bengaluru-based thief who stole gold jewellery from houses near railway stations was arrested on Sunday. Police said Shivakumar used to come to Hyderabad by train and after thefts go back in the next train. Police seized 45 tolas of gold and 500 gm silver from Shivakumar.

Task force DCP B. Limba Reddy said that T. Shivakumar, 27, who is working in a textile factory in Bengaluru belonged to Anantapur. He ran away from home as a child and came to Hyderabad. An NGO rescued him and admitted him to the Don Bosco institute where he learned driving.

Shivakumar used to sell stolen goods to receivers Valli Pash of Secunderabad and Ramprasad of Mahbubnagar.

“Houses near the railway station were his usual targets. He used to break locks with an iron rod and steal jewellery and cash,” Mr Limba Reddy said, adding that he sold stolen goods to receivers and spent the money on luxuries.

Police said that after training at Don Bosco, he started working as a driver, but soon lost the job as he was irregular. To meet expenses he started stealing iron rods and manhole covers and got addicted to bad habits. Slowly he started burglaries.
