Bihar gang held for housebreak in Chennai
Chennai: The police on Sunday arrested a six-member gang from Bihar in connection with a burglary reported a month and half ago in a financier’s house. Those held included the mastermind from Bihar, who had sent a cook to the house of financier Ashok Kumar (58), residing at Thani kachalam road in T Nagar.
The burglary took place when Ashok Kumar had left to Puducherry to attend a family function on April 28. On returning the next day, he found his cupboard broken into and Rs 15 lakh in cash, two diamond necklaces and 700 grams of gold jewellery were stolen.
The police said that Mohan Raj, who was working as a cook in the house, had left employment a week before the crime took place. Investigations reve aled that Mohan Raj was sent by Manoj to work in the financier’s house. Manoj used to send workers from Bihar to agents seeking domestic aides in Chennai homes and would later force them to give information of these houses to break into them. He has cases against him in other cities too, police said.
Police suspected the cook’s role and special teams tracked his associates in Dharbanga and Madhubani districts in Bihar a month back and arrested Lalan Roy and Santosh Kumar. Their arrests led the cops to two others, A Raguveer (30) and mastermind M Manoj alias Molu Mukkiya (30). On Friday, the cops nabbed two more associates of Manoj ad Rs 7 lakh cash recovered from them. The police are on the lookout for the cook.
