Consumer panel: Goldstone must refund customer Rs 20L

Hyderabad: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-I directed the Goldstone Infra management to refund Rs 20 lakh to a customer who is a non-resident Indian (NRI) for failing to deliver a building at Puppalaguda as agreed upon.

The complainant, A. Srinivas Santosh, sought compensation from Goldstone Infra for allegedly cheating him on the pretext of developing an open plot by collecting an amount from him.

He paid an amount of Rs 2 lakh as token advance. He also paid Rs 18 lakh on the date of the sale agreement. However, the Goldstone Infra failed to complete the construction as per the agreement and did not register the sale deed in favour of the complainant as promised.

After considering the complaint and its facts, the commission directed the Goldstone Infra to refund the amount of Rs 20 lakh towards the flat along with 12 per cent interest per annum from the date of agreement, February 12, 2021, till the date of realisation.

The commission also asked the Goldstone Infra to pay Rs 50,000 towards compensation and Rs 5,000 towards costs of litigation.
