Chennai: Burglars break into IAS officer’s house, steal gold

When she was sleeping in the house on the first floor, the burglars broke into the residence, according to the police.

Chennai: Unidentified persons have stolen 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a retired woman IAS officer in Chennai on Sunday.

The IAS officer, identified as Leena Nair, is an administrative member of the Tamil Nadu Real Estate Appellate Tribunal. She resides in Golden Colony at Korattur.

When she was sleeping in the house on the first floor, the burglars broke into the residence, according to the police. The cops suspected that the unidentified persons may have gained entry through the front door. They suspect that they entered easily.

The incident came to light when some of the workers spotted the cupboard open. Based on her complaint, a case was registered and cops have launched a hunt of the accused.

The police are collecting video footage from nearby CCTVs to identified to solve the theft.

The IAS officer of 1982 batch of Tamil Nadu cadre, served as Secretary for Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Later she served as Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, New Delhi in May 2017.
