Chennai: A city-based special branch CID head constable’s wife attempted to suicide following alleged workplace sexual harassment, on Friday. According to police sources, the 35-year-old wife of Suresh Babu, an SB-CID head constable and resident of St Thomas Mount, was working in a private firm in Siruseri SIPCOT. “On Friday evening, Suresh Babu found his wife lying unconscious in the house and rushed her to a private hospital. She had taken excess amount of sleeping pills,” the sources said.
The woman in her statement alleged that her male superior at the office had sexually harassed her. “The management, instead of taking action against the man, had forced the woman to resign. She left the job 3 days ago,” the police said.
Depressed by the gesture of her office management, she attempted to end her life and she is out of danger now, the police said. St Thomas Mount police have registered a case.
