Hyderabad: Man held for rape, mom cries foul

Mr Srinivas said Venkatesh was not in illegal detention but had been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Hyderabad: A woman filed a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission on Saturday alleging that her son Boga Venkatesh, 23, was being illegally detained by the Tukaram Gate police station on rape charges.

Ms Manjula Boga, 40, a resident of Addagutta who works as a domestic help in houses nearby, also alleged that when she went to meet her son, she was assaulted by police personnel.

Asked about this, ACP, Gopalpuram, Srinivas said the allegations were “absolutely baseless”. He said Venkatesh had allegedly raped the minor daughter of his mother’s friend on many occasions from December last.

He said Ms Manjula had said she would one day perform her son’s marriage with the minor. On many occasions, the accused used to take the victim out and rape her, the ACP said. The girl became pregnant, and her mother noticed it only after 22 weeks.

Based on the complaint made by the victim, Venkatesh was was booked under PoCSO Act. Mr Srinivas said Venkatesh was not in illegal detention but had been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
