Bengaluru: CDs were just for fun, Nagaraj tells police
Bengaluru: Former BBMP corporator and rowdy V. Nagaraj, who had created a buzz by releasing two video CDs making serious allegations against top police officials, reportedly told the police that he did it just for ‘fun’ and requested the police to not take it seriously.
Nagaraj’s allegations had left the policemen, who had raided his house, fuming as he had alleged in the CDs that the money belonged to some of the top police officers. Sources said that when the police questioned him, he told them, “What sir? I did it just for joke sir, why have you taken it so seriously.”
Meanwhile, the East division police, who had arrested Nagaraj and his two sons – Gandhi and Shastri – from Arcot in Tamil Nadu, brought the accused to the city late on Thursday night. On Friday evening, they were produced before the 11th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court and all were remanded to police custody for 10 days, till May 22.
The police requested the court to grant police custody of the accused for 15 days, as they wanted to question the accused in several cases and also had to recover property. Nagaraj’s advocate submitted that three days were enough to complete the interrogation. He also requested the court that his client should be interrogated only in the presence of his advocate, but the court turned down this request.
The police are yet to grill Nagaraj in connection with the cases filed against him. “So far, questioning has revealed that he was living in slums and was moving from one place to another while hiding in Tamil Nadu,” a police source said.
Amid reports that Nagaraj’s two wives had gone missing after their husband’s arrest, an official said that they would not bother about it as the police had no plans to arrest or question them, at the moment.
