2 travellers held with 784 grams gold at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
Hyderabad: Customs officials at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport nabbed two air passengers and seized 784 grams of gold worth Rs 22.50 lakh from their possession in two different cases. The passengers were smuggling gold in the form of kadas (bangles).
According to authorities, based on a tip off, officials from the Air Intelligence Unit at Shamshabad intercepted the flyers.
In the first case, the passenger arrived from Chicago via Dubai by Emirates Flight EK 524. He was found carrying 385 grams of foreign origin gold worth Rs 11,09,950 in the form of two kadas and a 24 karat gold coin.
In the second case, the passenger arrived from Sharjah by an Air Arabia flight no G9 458 and was found carrying 399 grams of gold in the form of three 24 karat kadas, worth '11,45,130.
Both the passengers were arrested and the smuggled gold was seized from their possession. The case is under investigation.
