Vijayawada: A City Security Wing will be created under the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate in the city to look after the security of the VIPs.

Police commissioner Mr Gawtam Sawang explained that to strengthen the city security it would be helpful. He said that the wing would consist of about 580 policemen. It would function under a DCP rank officer. It would include an additional DCP, two ACPs and others.

He explained that after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu started running the administration from Vijayawada, the security burden increased enormously on the city police.

In fact, there is not a single day without at least three ministers being in the city. Apart from that, the Chief Minister has been conducting the Cabinet meetings also in the city itself since the last few months.

Adding to that, delegates from various countries have been visiting the city for various reasons, including for the establishment of the capital city Amaravati and its development planners. Meanwhile, Mr Sawang requested the commercial shops to install CCTVs in order to prevent crimes.

He said that the police arrested 21 two-wheelers and another chain-snatcher in the city within a short span of time. He said that every commercial entity has to install the CCTVs as per the Act. He said that they would link all the CCTVs in the city to a centrally monitoring unit established at the commissionerate. The links could be opened by any police officer from all the police stations in the city to effectively monitor the situation.

He said that apart from the CCTV footage of the police installations, the private shops, apartments, individual houses should also install cameras to help detect cases. He said that the CCTV footage could be provided as an evidence at the court so as to ensure that the accused get punished in most of the cases.
