Police intensify efforts to prevent property offences during summer

HYDERABAD: With the onset of summer, all three police commissionerates in the city have geared up to prevent property offences. With an increased focus on patrolling, vigil on crime hotspots and keeping a tab on notorious offenders, police personnel have been urged to hold awareness meetings in colonies, apartment complexes and gated communities, to make them aware of the offences, preventive measures and the need to install CC cameras in their premises.

City police officials said that patrol teams are already on alert and they are also holding meetings with people in localities.

“We have been asking residents who will be locking their houses while going on vacation to inform their nearest police station and refrain from keeping valuables in their houses,” they said.

Cyberabad commissioner M. Stephen Raveendra, while reviewing summer crime prevention measures, directed the staff to undertake these measures on a priority basis as property offences are on the high during summer as many families go on holiday. This is more so with regard to automobile theft and burglaries. They have analysed crime data of the past five years in order to identify major hot spots and have worked on strategies to thwart offences, he said.

Meanwhile, Rachakonda CP D.S. Chauhan told his teams to be vigilant and focus on property offences and chain snatchings.

“Due to the efforts and strict measures taken by the police, the menace of chain snatchers has reduced to a great extent, but the guard should not be let down,” he said, adding that they should concentrate on the prevention of cybercrimes, which are on an alarming high. Rachakonda police have also formed special teams to detect and prevent cybercrimes.
