Kochi: Government opposes CBI probe into Periya

The government has also submitted a report on the progress of the investigation so far.

Kochi: The state government on Friday has opposed a CBI investigation into the Periya Twin murder case, in which two Youth Congress workers were killed by the alleged CPM activists. The affidavit submitted by the state government has stated that the present investigation led by the Crime Branch is progressing well and the present situation does not warrant an investigation by another agency as all the accused in the case are arrested.

The government has also submitted a report on the progress of the investigation so far. Stating that the CPM has no role in the murder the affidavit said that the personal vendetta of Peetham-baran, the prime accused in the case, led to the murder. The affidavit claimed that Peethamabaran has approached the party for retaliation against the Youth Congress workers involved in the attack against him but the party refused to take such a course of action despite Peethamabaran threatening to leave the party. The murder was planned and executed by Peethambaran with the help of his associates.

Parents of Sarth Lal and Kripesh, the two youths killed in the incident, approached the court demanding a CBI probe stating that they are not satisfied with the investigation by the local police. According to them CPM leaders are involved in a crime and the local police will not be able to nail them when the party is ruling the state. The petitioners wanted the investigation to bring out the conspiracy behind the incident and the conspirators. The two youths were hacked to death on February 17, 2019.
