Hyderabad: A woman from Chandanagar who murdered her 18-month-old niece by throwing her in a water drum was convicted by the LB Nagar court on Friday. The woman was directed by the court to undergo life imprisonment.
A case was registered by the Chandanagar police against T. Rajya Lakshmi, 24, a housewife from the Weaker Section Colony, on June 30, 2015, for the murder of her 18-month-old niece Jyothisha. The complaint was filed by the girl’s mother K. Renuka, alleging that Lakshmi had thrown her daughter into a water drum and killed her. The Chandanagar police during the investigation found that Lakhsmi suffered a miscarriage in May the previous year when she was eight months pregnant.
Ever since, she had been upset for she was not getting attention from her family members, while her niece Jyothisha, the daughter of her sister-in-law Renuka, was given importance. Because of this she developed a grudge against Renuka.
“At about noon on June 30, 2015, Lakshmi went to Renuka’s house and took away the baby girl. Upon returning from the bathroom, Renuka noticed that her child was missing and then found her in the water drum near Lakshmi’s house,” said police.
The police said that the accused Lakshmi confessed to having committed the offence. The case was chargesheeted before the Second Additional District Court at LB Nagar, which convicted the accused.
