Life term for 3 terror convicts
Mangaluru: All the three who were held guilty by the Third Additional District and Sessions Court on terror charges were sentenced to life term on Wednesday. On Monday, Judge Pushpanjali Devi had held the three – Sayeed Mohammed Noushad, Ahmed Bava Aboobakkar and Fakeer Ahmed – guilty. The quantum of punishment was to be declared on Wednesday.
The judge on Wednesday awarded rigours life imprisonment to all the three and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 under Sec 25(1) (A)(A) of Arms At, Section 16(1)(b) of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Sec 120(b) of IPC and Section 5(b) of Explosives Act.
For offences under Sec 17 and 18 of UAP Act, three were sentenced five years imprisonment and imposed Rs 5,000 fine and for offences under Sec 9(b) of Explosives Act, two years' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3,000.
Naushad was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5,000 for offences under Sec 420 of IPC. For offences under IPC Sec 468 and 471, he was sentenced to three years' RI and fine of Rs 3,000.
For offences under Sec 6 of Indian Explosives Substances Act Fakeer was also sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment. The judge said the life terms will run concurrently, while the remaining will run consecutively.
