Rajahmundry: Unaccounted cash seized by police

Police also seized a carton of liquor being carried without paying tax. The contraband had its origin in Telangana.

Rajahmundry: Unaccounted cash totalling around Rs 33 lakh has been seized in Kurnool district since the model code of conduct came into force following the announcement of elections, said SP Kaginelli Fakkeerappa.

On Tuesday, police seized Rs 14 lakh at the Panchalingala interstate check post from Maka Giridharbabum, a native of Nandikotkur in Kurnool district. The vehicle was going from Gadwal to Kurnool.

Police also seized Rs 19 lakh from a vehicle coming from Hyderabad on Monday. The officials said that no proper explanation was furnished by the persons concerned for transporting cash.

Police also seized a carton of liquor being carried without paying tax. The contraband had its origin in Telangana. The seizure from a four-wheeler was done at Sunkuesula check post.

The Election Commission is in constant touch with the intelligence wing and the finance ministry with regard to flow of illegal money during elections, the officials said.
