Marappana ward corporator, wife hit me: 15-yr-old maid

Mahadev's wife arrested, released on bail.

Bengaluru: Marappana ward corporator and chairman of the BBMP Taxation and Finance Committee Mahadev along with his wife allegedly assaulted their domestic help, who is a minor, over a theft of Rs 5,000 from their house on Sunday morning. The victim alleged that she was brutally beaten up by the couple and the police at the corporator's residence.

The victim, who is 15 years old, is from Mandya and stays at Nandini Layout. She alleged that she was tortured by the couple on Sunday morning. Later, her parents took her to a hospital for treatment and filed a complaint with the Nandini Layout police station in the night. The complaint names corporator's wife, Sudha, as one of the accused.

After an investigation and recording the girl's statement, the police found that she had stolen the money, but had returned it to the couple the same day. The victim told the media that Sudha thrashed her on Sunday morning after she confessed to stealing the money and returned it.

She alleged that even after requesting Sudha to let her go, the corporator's wife continued to beat her and the couple threatened to hand her over to the police. She alleged that the police tortured and kicked her with their boots at the corporator's house. But the police denied the allegations, claiming that the girl could not say which police station the cops who tortured her belonged to.

They said that since no theft case was filed by the couple, no cop could have visited their house and interrogated the minor maid. Corporator Mahadev denied the allegations made by the victim and said that she normally accompanied her aunt, who worked at their residence as a maid.

The girl looked after their kid, Mahadev claimed. He said that he was not at home when the incident took place and that his wife had only advised the girl not to steal money.

The Nandini Layout police arrested the corporator's wife on Monday morning and later released her on bail. The victim said that she had taken the money as her family faced financial problems, but returned it after making a confession.

But, she alleged, the couple started beating her even after returning the money, thinking that she had stolen their gold jewellery too that went missing a few days ago. She begged with them, saying she did not have any role in the jewellery theft, but they continued to thrash her, the maid said.
