Hyderabad: Watchman held for raising ganja plants in open plot
Hyderabad: A 60-year-old watchman who was cultivating ganja in an open plot was arrested by Rajendranagar police on Sunday. The police also seized two ganja plants from the plot. Police said the man was a good cook and used to do voluntary cleaning and serving at a nearby temple.
Police said that Shyma Lal, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, was working as a security guard at an open plot in Upperpally. He was addicted to ganja and used to get it from peddlers in Dhoolpet.
A few months ago, he decided to cultivate the weed himself in the open plot and purchased ganja seeds from sellers in Dhoolpet. He sowed them three months ago. Three plants grew up to two feet height.
Based on a tip-off, police raided the plot and nabbed him. They also seized two dried and one live plant from the location.
“The weight of the seized material is around 350 grams and is worth '10,000 in the market,” Rajendra-nagar inspector V. Umender said.
Police registered a case under The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested Shyam Lal. He will be produced in court, police said.
