Delhi: Gangrape survivor jumps off balcony
New Delhi: Police in Delhi arrested five employees of a BPO on Sunday for allegedly raping a 30-year-old woman. It’s believed the woman jumped off the first floor of the building in an attempt to escape.
The victim told the police she was locked up and raped repeatedly in a flat in east Delhi’s Pandav Nagar. According to reports, she sustained injuries to her legs during her attempt to escape.
Following an official complaint, police has registered cases of gangrape, illegal confinement and unnatural sex against the five arrested who have been identified as Lakshya, Vikas Kumar, Naveen, Swarit and Prateek.
Cops added that the woman was taken to the flat on Saturday night by Vikas, who also knew her. He later left the flat claiming he had some work to attend to and promised her that he would pick her up the next day, Sunday.
Reports from Delhi quoted a senior police officer connected with the investigation. “The woman left with him and on the way met two of his friends. The three brought her to the flat where their three other friends were already present. Vikas stepped out after sometime, leaving the woman with the five men,” the official said.
In her complaint, the victim said the five accused in the flat forced her to consume alcohol. She claimed that when she was intoxicated, the men took turns to rape her. She added the five warned her of dire consequences if she reported the crime to the police.
But at about 5.30 am in the morning, she jumped off the balcony of the first-floor flat and immediately alerted passers-by about the alert. “The rape survivor was admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for medical treatment and examination. She sustained minor injuries in her legs. We have registered a case and have arrested the five youths,” a police official was quoted as saying.
The police added the woman, originally from Nepal, lived with her two children in South Delhi’s Munirka.
