Bengaluru: Murder convict on parole kills 13-year-old son, ends life

Police said that Sridhar was a financier and eight years ago murdered his brother-in-law over a financial dispute.

Bengaluru: A 38-year-old murder convict, who was released on parole four days ago, committed suicide along with his 13-year-old son in Bagalagunte police station limits on Sunday morning.

The exact reason for the incident is not yet known, but it is suspected that the convict was very attached to his son and could have taken the extreme step as he was supposed to return to jail within a few days.

Sridhar and his son Srivishnu are the deceased. They were living in an apartment in Shettihalli. Sridhar got married to Savitri about 15 years ago and had two children, Srivishnu and Deeksha.

Police said that Sridhar was a financier and eight years ago murdered his brother-in-law over a financial dispute. He was convicted in the case and was awarded life sentence.

He was lodged in Parappana Agrahara central prison and had come out on parole on March 8. On Saturday evening, his wife left to her parents house located nearby as her father fell ill. Sridhar and his son had also visited them and had returned home in the night.

“On Sunday at 7 am, Savitri contacted her husband over phone and asked him to come early for breakfast, and he had told her that he would come as soon as Srivishnu wakes up. As he did not go for dinner even at 9 am, his wife called him again but the phone was switched off. After waiting till 10 am, Savitri went to check. As they did not open the door, Savitri broke open the door with the help of neighbours and was shocked to find her husband and son hanging from the ceiling,” the police said.

In her statement to the police, Savitri has said that the father and son were emotionally attached. “He had told me several times that it’s was difficult for him to spend his life without his son. Thus, he was coming on parole to spend time with Srivishnu. On Saturday evening, he had asked both our children to study well and had repented that they also had to suffer because of his mistake. When I called him in the morning, he sounded depressed,” an official said quoting Savitri.

The police also suspect that Sridhar might have killed his son by hanging him before ending his life and also investigating on those lines. The Bagalagunte police have registered an unnatural death case in this connection.
