Hyderabad: Shriya's body exhumed, post-mortem done again

With the HC issuing a modified order a re-post-mortem was conducted on Saturday.

Hyderabad: The exhumation and re-post-mortem of the body of T. Shriya Prasad, who was an engineering student at the Gitam University in Vizag, was conducted on Saturday at Ammu-guda.

The exhumation which was scheduled last week was not done as forensic experts raised objections regarding the HC order. With the HC issuing a modified order a re-post-mortem was conducted on Saturday.

After Shriya’s death in February at her hostel in Vizag her family alleged that the university had manipulated facts regarding her death and had made it a suicide and approached the High Court.

The court ordered exhumation of the body. But due to a difference of opinion between the family which did not agree to a re-postmortem and forensic experts who said exhumation included postmortem also, the exhumation could not be conducted on March 4.

The family later approached the HC and the court included the heads of Gandhi and Osmania hospitals and directors of medical and health of Telangana and AP in the order and directed them to conduct the exhumation.

As per court orders Malkajgiri tahsildar Vijaya supervised the exhumation and the post-mortem was conducted by a team of 12 experts in the presence of the directors of medical and health from TS and AP, police officials, an advocate on record and Shriya’s mother and relatives. The procedure began at 9.30 am and concluded at around 3 pm.

Meanwhile, Shriya’s family said that she was a strong willed person. “My child’s death devastated us. We are now confident that she will get justice,” said Shriya’s mother Yvonne Prasad.

"The body was exhumed in the presence of the directors, tehsildar and Shriya's family and postmortem was conducted. Viscera samples were sent to the forensic lab," said Alwal ACP Syed Rafeeq.
