Harassed girl commits suicide
GUNTUR: A girl engineering student committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling fan unable to bear harassment from a senior student demanding to love him. The incident took place in Kasukarru village in Ponnur mandal of Guntur district on Saturday morning. According to reports, Kancharla Amulya, 19, was studying B. Tech first year in Chirala Engineering College. She was allegedly facing hara-ssment from local youth K. Sarvothama Rao, 30, for the past six months.
Sarvothama Rao, after completing his degree, was spending time leisu-rely in the village and demanding Amulya to love him. He allegedly used to follow the girl demanding to accept his love, but Amulya turned it down. In December 2015, Amulya informed about the harassment to her parents who sent her to their relative’s residence at Hyderabad.
The parents alleged that Sarvothama Rao continued to harass their daughter on the phone. Further, Amulya returned to the village 20 days ago. The accused once again started harassing Amulya. On Saturday morning, Sarvothama Rao came to Amulya’s house demanding to love him and threatened to kill her if she rejected his proposal. Amulya came out from the house and informed her parents who were in the nearby fields and noticing it, Sarvothama Rao fled from the spot.
Later, Amulya’s parents went to the market to sell vegetables and Amulya committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling fan in her house. The locals informed about the suicide to the parents who lodged a complaint with Ponnuru rural SI, M. Rambabu. The police registered a case and started a search to nab the accused.
