Lawyer's murder: 5 suspects surrender
Chennai: Five men who recently hacked a lawyer to death in public view near his house in Sholavaram, surrendered at the Minjur police station here, on Tuesday morning.
The accused identified as Mariappan, Sarath Kumar, Johnson, Kamaraj and Surya from Sholavaram, were later handed over to the Sholavaram police.
According to police, Suresh Kumar (47), resident of Nallur village at Sholavaram, was a lawyer and president of VCK party in Thiruvallur district.
On Monday morning, when he had gone out of the house to buy milk and newspaper, six men on two motorbikes confronted Suresh Kumar and started attacking him with sharp weapons. When Suresh Kumar started to run, three men ran towards the bike, and the other three chased and attacked him.
Kumar was taken to the government hospital in Ponneri, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Suresh Kumar’s second wife, a 27-year-old woman, had a fight with her lawyer husband, and left to her mother’s house. Suresh had allegedly threatened to assault the woman and her relatives who came in support of her. Police suspect that the woman’s kin hired the gang and murdered him.
