Kerala: Man murders three kin over property feud
Kochi: A man hacked to death his brother, sister-in law and their daughter following a dispute over ancestral property at Mukkannur near Angamaly on Monday evening. Sivan (60) of Arackal, Erappe, wife Valsa (56) and daughter Smitha (33) were murdered by former’s younger brother Babu Parambathadan (45). The shocking incident happened at 5.45 pm. The accused fled in his bike soon after the incident but alert cops managed to nab him from Chirangara in Koratty. Unconfirmed reports said he tried to commit suicide after riding to a public pond.
However, local residents rescued him and by that time, cops reached the scene. “The relationship between the brothers was sour with them indulging in disputes over sharing of ancestral property often. The two families were not even on talking terms. However, we’re probing what has led to the gruesome murders. The interrogation of the accused has begun,” police said.
On Sunday, the accused arrived at their ancestral property and tried to cut down a tree for the purpose of selling it. However, Sivan prevented the same and the two indulged in a heated argument. On Monday evening, he arrived at Sivan’s house and hacked him and his wife inside the house. When he came out he saw Smitha and murdered her too. Though two twins of Smitha – Ashwin and Aparna (two years) , too were attacked they were rushed to a near-by hospital where their condition is stated to be out of danger. “Babu is a goods vehicle driver. While Sivan and four other brothers live side by side, Babu lives at a rented house a little away. A case for murder has been lodged,” they said.
