Fraudster held for cheating loan seekers of Rs 17 lakh

Ramesh collected the targets’ Aadhaar and PAN cards and bank account details

Hyderabad: Rachakonda cybercrimes police arrested a cyber fraudster for cheating loan seekers of ₹17 lakh. Police said the accused, Ramesh Elumalai, had made a conference call over the phone to two persons, introduced himself as a loan provider, Varmaraj, and offered them ₹9 crore loans on one per cent interest.

He collected the targets’ Aadhaar and PAN cards and bank account details. He colleted ₹17 lakh from them saying he needed the money to prevent GST and TDS charges. After receiving them money, he stopped responding to their calls, Rachakonda police commissioner D.S. Chahuan said on Thursday.

Based on the victims’ complaint, a special team led by cybercrime inspector M. Shankar arrested the accused in Chennai.
