CI, constable arrested while taking bribe

Anantapur: ACB catches Bukkaraya Samudram circle inspector, constable while taking a bribe of Rs 25000 from a family to help a person get bail in a case. A trap was laid for the CI and the costable at BK Samudram in Anantapur district on Sunday, ACB sleuths said.

The victim's family had already paid Rs 50000 to the CI after negotiations were done with him. The CI had demanded Rs 75000 from the complainant, Mallikarjuna. Mallikarjuna's family approached ACB while giving the CI the final payment.

ACB DSP Shiva Narayana Swamy said Mallikarjuna and his brother-in-law were involved in a cheating case. Local cops arrested Mallikarjuna in May. The brother-in-law approached the high court and obtained bail.

When Mallikarjuna's family approached the SHO and BK Samudram CI, S Ramu, along with bail papers from the high court, he demanded Rs 75,000 from them. The family members went and gave the CI Rs 50000 as advance and he pressed them for an additional Rs 25000 as the “balance amount.”

Vexed, the family members approached Kurnool DSP Shiva Naryana Swamy. He laid a trap for the CI on Saturday night. The ACB team caught the CI as also a constable, B Kareem, red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 25000 from Mallikarjuna’s family. Mallikarjuna was running an educational institution in BK Samudram mandal.

ACB said CI Ramu and constable Karim were detained and the case was shifted to the Kurnool ACB court.
