Hyderabad: Another victim of OLX online fraud

The victim deposited Rs 2 lakh in a bank account provided by the accused on December 1.

Hyderabad: Another city resident has fallen prey to cyber fraudsters on OLX and lost Rs 5.5 lakh. The fraudsters had posted an ad on the e-commerce portal for selling a 2013 model SUV. They told the victim that the car is parked at the RGI airport due to which they are unable to produce the car for viewing. After he paid the amount, they told him that he can collect the car from the airport. Later, he realised that he was cheated. With repeated incidents of cheating on e-commerce platforms like OLX, the police has advised the public to be cautious before buying products online.

The victim hailing from Mallapur village in Yadadri Bhongir Zone under Rachakonda Commissionerate is working as a driver in a private travel agency for more than five years. A week ago, he came across the ad on Olx to sell a 2013 model Toyota Innova. The deal was striked for Rs 5.5 lakh. The victim deposited Rs 2 lakh in a bank account provided by the accused on December 1. On Decem-ber 4, he paid the remaining sum of Rs 3.5 lakh. He was interacting with two persons identified as Taher and Pooja.

But to his shock, when he reached the airport, he did not find the vehicle and the contact number used by the callers were switched off. A case was registered with the Rachakonda cybercrime cell. Mr S. Harinath, Rachakonda cybercrimes ACP, said, “Unless verifying the product and meeting the seller in person, people should not proceed with payment.”
