Hyderabad: A sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a school student went out of control in Bachupally on Sunday evening.

A techie and his wife were injured in the accident when the SUV hit their scooter. Police launched a hunt to track down the student who was driving the car.

According to police, six teens, all residents of Pragathi Nagar, were travelling in the White Scorpio jeep. The driver who was also a teen was driving at a high speed. While the vehicle was passing through the by-lanes of Mithila Nagar in Pragathi Nagar, the teen lost control and the vehicle ran amok creating panic among commuters.

Meanwhile, B. Nagendra Kumar, 36, and his wife B. Devi, who were riding on their scooter was coming from the opposite direction.

The teen lost control on the wheel and ran over the scooter. As a result Nagendra and his wife were thrown off from their scooter and fell at a distance, while the scooter was crushed under the front wheels of the SUV, after which the vehicle came to a halt. The teens in the vehicle escaped unhurt.

Locals gathered at the spot and rushed the victims to the hospital, while the teens fled from the spot leaving behind the vehicle.

“Eyewitnesses said the teens belonged to the same locality and are students of Bhasyam school in Bachupally. We are trying to trace them,” Bachupally Inspector K. Balakrishna Reddy said.

Nagendra suffered fractures on his hand and a leg, while Devi suffered a serious injury on her head.

Both are undergoing treatment at a private hospital, while police teams have been set up to apprehend the absconding teens.

Police officials said that they have summoned some friends of the teens who were in the SUV and questioned them for the whereabouts of the teens.
