CBI must probe NICE deals: HD Deve Gowda

I have a copy of the MoU signed between the government and NICE company, and am ready to give it if it is missing: H.D. Deve Gowda.

Bengaluru: National President of Janata Dal (Secular) H.D. Deve Gowda has demanded a CBI probe into the deals of NICE which was allegedly making money exploiting poor farmers and misusing government land.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said that a joint House Committee of the state Legislature headed by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra had given a detailed report highlighting irregularities committed by NICE. Based on this report, the government should take necessary steps including taking back additional land given to the company as well as other properties since it had not given compensation to land losers. CM Siddaramaiah knew the subject well and he had already indicated that stern action would be taken against the company concerned on the floor of the Assembly.

Mr Gowda said he had been fighting for the cause of farmers who lost their land for this project and would continue to do so till peasants get justice. The company had promised to give jobs to children of farmers who lost land and it should come out with details. The company got nearly 300 huts vacated near PES college through Bengaluru deputy commissioner and was developing layouts in six places including one at Madanayakanahalli village. Revenue authorities should prove their clout by demolishing houses built by the company without paying relief to land losers.

He said some parties raised objection when he got a book written on illegalities of NICE with relevant documents. They thought JD(S) was targeting the company unnecessarily. The same book had been sent to judges too. Now people have realised the irregularities committed by the company in the last two decades.
