School PRO booked for harassing nine-year-old girl

TIRUPATI: Vedayapalem police on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man working as a PRO for a private school in Kothur of Nellore, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and SC/ST atrocities Act, for allegedly harassing a nine-year-old Class IV girl.

Circle inspector K. Narasimha Rao said the police received a complaint by the parents of the minor girl on Saturday morning against T. Brahmaiah Naidu of Nellore and working as a PRO in a private school, that he had sexually harassed a girl, studying in the same school. Following the complaint, the police took Naidu into custody for interrogation.

DSP Srinivasa Reddy booked a case against the accused under Pocso and SC/ST atrocity Acts and launched further investigation. The accused has been sent to judicial remand.

“The minor girl was sent for medical examination and based on the medical report, further action will be initiated”, Narasimha Rao told Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed for some time at the school after student organisations, which included Students Federation of India and Telugu Nadu Students Federation staged protests demanding stern action against the accused. Student Union leaders entered into a heated argument with the school management when they questioned negligence of the school staff.
