Telangana: Overspeeding lorry kills 6 on National Highway 44
Hyderabad: In a major accident on NH 44 on Saturday evening, six persons were killed and six others injured when an overspeeding lorry hit an auto rickshaw. The mishap occurred when the lorry rammed into the auto rickshaw while it was crossing the National Highway. All the victims were daily wage earners at cotton fields and were retur-ning home after work. Some of the deceased were identified as Balamma Lakshmamma, Rangamma, Nagamani, auto driver Rafiuddin. The traffic on both sides on the National Highway came to a standstill with body parts scattered on the road.
According to the police, 12 persons were returning to their village in Bandamamidipalli in the auto rickshaw. When the vehicle was crossing the road near R&B guesthouse near Kaverammapet village, a loaded lorry, travelling from Hyde-rabad to Bengaluru, rammed into the rear of the auto. “The passengers were thrown out of the vehicle. The lorry later ran over all the passengers who fell on the road,” said the police. Five of them died on the spot while a woman succumbed to her injuries in a hospital. The road turned bloody with body parts of the deceased. It took more than an hour for the police to clear the bottlenecks.
